General Motors announced that it was considering selling part of the 67%
interest they own in Hughes Electronics. Hughes Electronics is the parent
of Hughes Network (Direct TV & Direct PC among other offerings), Hughes
Satellite (builds the birds), and majority owner of PanAm Sat (opertes
satellites). GM stock rose after the announcement.
There is a petition being circulated in the City of St.L. to
overturn the recently signed law requiring the cable operator

The Trials & Joys of Installing Linux by Troy DeArmitt
2. What would you like to see.
3. What can you present....
Linux SIG COMMENTS:
OBSERVATIONS:
This was was an excellent turn out with 13 requests for SLUUG newsletter.
Wave Technologies donation of over 50 copies of Calderia 2.2 was the best
give away feeding frenzy in months.
OPINION:
We might get more attendance sheets returned if we would tie them to the
giveaways; but, with 50 copies of anything it would be even more frantic.
Those who do not understand Unix are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.
-- Henry Spencer
At the November General SLUUG meeting:
Cable modems give a whole new meaning to Network Neighborhood.
-- Tom Parsons
At the November Linux SIG meeting:
What's with you Micro$oft guys and reinstalling the OS?
-- Matthew (Matt) Feldt from 3 Nov 99
Just think how long it would have taken you to mount the CD, if you
hadn't been logged on as root!
-- Stanford (Stan) Baldwin

..oh wait, he does. -- Nate Fox (natefox@NOSPAM.csulb.edu)
In January a small group of those that are bored with the tutorials will meet in the secondary room, behind the main presentation area. Attendance will not be by invatation; but, lurkers and wantabees will be embarassed and urged to leave. Subject matter will be refereed by Rich Seibel.
Suspenders and pocket protector optional. Bring your slide rules.
Do you have what it takes to run with the Guru?
Please contact Rich Seibel by sending mailto:rich@mail.sluug.org if you have suggestions for this experiment.

or if you prefer:

They have gotten four of the six books that I'v requested in the last two months. Linux books seem to be high interest, so not a problem. They apparently will usually not order any books that have tear out sections in them.
Non-Linux, Unix specific books above a certain price will require more demand before they start to order them. So, start requesting!
